Every January, UCL Indian Society hosts a prestigious and extravagant ball celebrating India’s Republic Day. This year the event was held at the luxurious 5 Star Montcalm Hotel in Marble Arch in which students from UCL, Imperial College London and the London School of Economics were in attendance. Each ticket included a champagne reception followed by an exquisite three-course Indian buffet catered by the hotel. The night was transformed by students dancers, musical performers as well as a beautiful performance of the Indian National Anthem by UCL's very own! Jashn 2019 is looking to be the biggest event that Indian Society has organised to date - keep your eyes peeled for our official reveal!
For many years, Dhamaal has been one of the biggest sell-out club nights for students at UCL! The event takes place in two parts, with Part I in late October and Part II in early March. This past year, the former took place at Shaka Zulu, a stunning venue boasting 20ft high warrior statues, a champagne bar, cocktail lounge and restaurant. We offered two floors of entertainment including the best of Bollywood, RnB and Bhangra music, as well as live Dhol players! Part II, coined 'The Finale' took up its place in the astonishing Sway Bar Club in the heart of Holborn! We plan to make this ever amazing event even more breathtaking in October this year, with an even better night full of more surprises so keep a look out for its official reveal! BBC Asian Network DJ and Pani Puri Shots? You're not going to want to miss out!
Each year, we dedicate one week in the UCL calendar entirely to promoting Indian culture and heritage across the campus. We host multiple events throughout the week giving the UCL community an insight into Indian food, dance, music and history. Last year, events included our Indian, open-mic style music night 'Sangeet', a Bhangra dance workshop, free mehndi, cups of chai in the Quad, a movie night and yoga class. In 2018/19 look out not just for one India week...but two!
Bombay Bazaar consists of a large fair held in the UCL main quad celebrating Indian culture with multiple stalls selling food, henna and various other specialties. This year our event was even broadcasted on Snapchat in the London category! At night, we had the pillars of the UCL main quad lit up in the colours of the Indian flag for a truly stunning display, accompanied by a DJ and live dance performances! We'll be continuing this event in 2019 too, and will ensure it's as exciting as ever.
